New Beginnings~

"Often when you are at the end of something, you're at the beginning of something else.  I've felt that many times.  My hope for all of us is that 'the miles we go before we sleep' will be filled with all the feelings that come from deep caring- delight, sadness, joy, wisdom- amd that in all endings of our life, we will be able to see the new beginnings."

.The World according to Mister Rogers; one of my Christmas presents today from my mom.  The above quote was on the first page I opened.  This was especially poignant to me as I am facing an ending.  One which I am trying, sometimes struggling to see as a new beginning not just merely the end of something.  Next week my children and I will be joining my husband at our new duty station in Quantico, VA.
I'm excited about the move and being reunited as a family after nearly an entire year apart.  It is particularly daunting to me, one who is quiet and has a very hard time making new friends. The idea of moving away to totally new place, away from everything I know can be somewhat paralyzing.
Today this page was another assurance that just because one thing is ending it doesn't have to be bad.  We are beginning a new life (again) as a family.  One where we will be together.  We will meet new people and make new friends and have new adventures.

Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup

Isn't it funny how the simple things can make a strange house start to feel like a home.  And a strange new town feel familiar.
Today for example we went to the first story hour here in Quantico.  And even though it was a different library with different kids, it made it feel more like we are here to stay and not just visiting.  When we got "home" we had- what I think is a traditional feel good, brings back childhood feelings type of meal- grilled cheese and tomato soup.
As I look around my new house (which still after two weeks has a few more boxes to be unpacked) it is starting to feel like it could be home.

One more thing that also makes it more of a home is our latest arrival ~ a 4 month old black kitten named Stormy.

So I'm alittle lonely . . .

Ok so today I'm alittle jealous of my sister.  Not in a bad I hate her guts sorta way just an I wish I had that too but I'm so glad she has it sorta way.  I guess two plus weeks of  having only a 4 year old and a 15 month old as companions is kinda getting to me.  I'm longing for adult friendship.  And not really just that casual might say hi to you on the street kinda friendship.  But that kindred spirit, bosum friend type of friend.  And that is why I'm alittle envious today.  She has found a best friend and me in my lonely new town am hoping one of these days I might too.

You know there is really nothing better than that smile you get when you walk in the room after your baby's nap.  Something about the grin that spread over that chubby little face and those little arms flying up to be lifted out of the crib can make you smile even on your worst days.
Not that this has been one of my worst days by far.  Actually its been a very good if somewhat boring (by some peoples standards, not mine) day.  I am feeling good  because I DID exercise for the 6th time in 9 days.   Not perfect but far better than my pervious track record of almost NEVER!  And small start that it is I'm already seeing improve ment.  Like being able to comfortablely wear my jeans again!
Also I'm attemping to become more organized (Ha!  But I am trying!!)  Today was spent searching recipe books in an attept to make some kind of dinner menu for the next month. We'll see how that one goes.

The Best Cooker Ever!

The Best Cooker Ever!  And what you may ask did I do to earn this title of Culinary Excellence.  Hot Dogs and Kraft Mac & Cheese.  Ok~ so it doesn't take much to impress a 4 year old!  But last night I was thinking about it and Mikayla and how at times I wish I was more like my young daughter.  Thankfully she has a healthy (but not over the top) dose of my husband mixed in her genes some where.  What I wouldn't give some days to be able to just exclaim what's on my mind.  As well as the ability to walk up to complete and total strangers and start chatting and make new friends.  You may think that this is just her 4 year old inhabitions coming out.  I howver know this is not the case.  I was never at any point in my life 4 years old or other wise able to go and talk to complete strangers.
I do feel that I am slowly improving in this area though.  It is starting with getting to know my husband again.  After spending nearly a year apart it is somewhat strange to be living together in the same country- let alone house!  But things are beginning to come together and we are all adjusting to family life again.  The last two nights we actually had dinner conversation!  Woo-hoo!  And last night he even hung around a few minutes after the kids left the table and asked to hear about my day.He didn't even let me off the hook when I said it was pretty uneventful.  Which led me to believe he actually cared what I did on my uneventful day of laundry and menu plans.

On a side note:  I was invited to a Pampered Chef Party by one of the shop wives!  Yea~ I'm so excited.  Not only to I LOVE Pampered Chef. . . But I also get to go hang out with some real live adult women!  Yea again!  So this is me~ beginning to have a life! : )

Those Pesky Nemitz Genes

Yesterday I  had great visions of what I would accomplish; unfortunately I did not get anything done.  I woke up with a blinding headache and spent most of the day on the couch watch Nickolodeon with Mikayla. I must say I've quite had my fill of Rugrats, CatDog and Sponage Bob Squarepants!!!  I am happy to say that I was able to do a little quilting.  Yes Laura, your quilt is coming along, slowly but surely.  And unless you show up here in the next few weeks.  It should be done when next we meet. : )

Today, however is once again on the upswing.  We visited yet another new church in the area.  Now popping into an already established close knit group, where you are a complete stranger is not my idea of a good time.  I'm looking forward to the day when we are part of another close knit grouping and trying to make the other new people feel at ease instead!  I also once again saw myself in Mikayla has she clung to me and tried to bury herself in my side.  Yes, at times those pesky Nemitz genes rear their ugly head proving she is not always as outgoing and confident as she may sometimes appear.  Oh well, at least she's closer (at 4!!!) to overcoming her paralyzing shyness!

Anyway, this morning it was the Stafford County Christian Church.  After the intial settling in we all throughly enjoyed the service.  I'm excited to report that we were even greeted by more than just the officail greeter at the door.  As we were picking up the kids from their respective classes we even met a Marine Wife from here at Quantico. Over all it was a great experience, the pastor was great, and the people were very friendly and welcoming, the building itself is new and very nice.

I feel a great week coming on!

Side Note~
I am having a little trouble adjusting to the panic that just the mere POSSIBILITY of snow flurries cause around here!!!!

So Much To Do~ So Little Energy!

Ryan has just succeeded in losing my entire newest entry as he managed to close the program just has I was typing the final line!  Isn't he cute!  And instead of taking that as a sign that I've wasted too much time this morning already, I'm about to try and recreate it.

When I went to bed last night I had a whole list of things I was going to accomplish today.  Mainly things I was going to do this weekend but of  course did not get done.  And as I look around I can see half a dozen things that need to be done in this very room.  Never mind the rest of the house!  But here I sit at almost 10 am still in my PJ's reading blogs and now retyping my own entry.

Incidently Ryan is the reason am dragging this morning.  I stayed up until 11 PM (not so late, right?) watching one of the Rambo movies with my hubby, then stayed up another hour after that reading Pride and Predjudice.  So I finally fell asleep around midnight.  This is where Ryan comes in, waking up around 12:20 am.  I headed out to the couch in an effort to get him back to sleep with out having to stay fully conscience myself.  Rhett woke me up about 6 hours later as he was getting ready for work.  I, along with Ryan, crawled back into bed hoping for another hour of sleep.  Finally he settled down (after a trip to the kitchen for more milk).  Shortly there after his wonderful sister arrived wide awake and ready to start the day.  Who needs sleep anyway???

Side Note~  Now there's a sound I have not heard in a few weeks! A snow plow just went down the back road!  Yes, we actually got roughly 4 inches of snow last night!  Curious as to how the VA natives are handling all that white stuff!

Snow Day

My stress levels are beginning to soar.  I need a little break so intead of break something, I'm attepting to decompress by writing instead.  Two sentences in I must say I already feel alittle bit better.
Yes for the second day in a row VA is in virtual shutdown.  Not that there is really that much snow~ back in NY we had more from our first snowfall back in November.  But they apparrently lack the skills for moving said snow out of the road.  So where as in NY 6 inches of snow wouldn't hinder me in the least; here the roads are a slick combo of leftover snow from yesterday and the freezing rain from last night~ lovely!

Another sore point today is Slipcovers!  I hate them!  Why is it in this modern day and age we can not manage to make a slipcover that will stay put on the couch.  This has been irking me since I first bought the thing 2 years ago.  The couch looks so much better with it, and it looks great after it's been freshly tucked in.  However the moment any person sits on said couch the slipcover looks atrocious!

This morning after much debating I decided to head out and try to go to the MOPS group... The reason for all the debate was that there was still a little snow~  Not that it was actually snowing . . . the sky was bright and sunny, or that the roads were snow covered and icy . . . they were merely wet.  So surely on what was turning out to be a beautiful winter day they would not cancel due to weather.  Upon arriving we discover the door still locked and hardly a soul around.  Oh well, maybe we were just early.  After all it was not yet 9:30 am.  So we headed back to the car to wait for a few minutes.  Just to be sure.  Finally we gave up sadly and left.  At home I had an email from Shelley . . .  MOPS was canceled due to weather.   My only question is~  WHAT WEATHER???  Oh well, better luck next time!

Side Note~  The day was not a total loss.  We did hit the Wal Mart.  And I now have 4 instead of 3 curtians in my living room.  As well has new curtians in the kitchen and bath.  : )

Looking Good!

Looks like a promising day.  First off I was able to sleep until almost 7 am, thanks to both Ryan and Mikayla sleeping peacefully through the night.  It's amazing what actually getting 8 hours of sleep will do for a person!
After channel surfing with Ryan for a while and seeing a number of either infomercials for workout equipment or actual areobic shows, I decided my time would probably be better spent getting off my butt and exercising myself.
Now I have just finished making my menu for the next two weeks. Since it's payday! I can go to the commissary and get groceries.
Our first stop, however,  will be the library since we missed Story time on Tuesday~ due to the horrible VA weather!  And we all need our weekly fix of books!  I'm so glad my children love books (almost) as much as I do.
Yes today I'm feeling rather good about myself.  My goals of becoming a better, more organized, trimmer Amy are beginning to come into veiw.

Side Note~  Tomorrow is the Pampered Chef Party!  Very excited and nervous!
